Risk mitigation.

Awareness is the first weapon against natural disasters.

Behaviors to avoid.

Operating on or in connection to a slope there are some common rules that can help to prevent triggering a landslide. Always avoid the following operations without a complete study of the slope:
  • Execute cuts or excavations, specially at the toe of the slope, without a complete study of the slope stability.
  • Divert a river or discharge waters without control.
  • Accumulate a water reservoirs directly in basins without the opinion of a geotechnical expert.
  • Overload the slope with constructions or embankments, specially at the top of the slope.
  • Realize water reservoirs, specially at the top of the slope, without an impervious bottom.
  • Deforestation of trees or extensive bush removal.

Slope stability analysis software.

Software for slope stability analysis is recommended only for Geotechnical Engineers or similar specialists, because of the level of expertise needed to correctly input parameters and to discern correct resulsts. Some of the most popular slope stability software are:
  • Plaxis (Plaxis b.v.)
  • FLAC (Itasca)
  • SVSlope (Soilvision)
  • GeoStudio (GEO-SLOPE)
  • Rocfall and RocPlane (Rocscience)
  • RockPackIII (Rockware)
